We're one week away from our first weeklong break of the year! I don't know about you, but I love having these breaks built into the school year. The rest is good for us, and cutting the year into chunks makes it easier for us to mark our progress. This September break marks the first major checkpoint for us, and I'm pleased with all we have accomplished so far.
Performances of our first drama department production of the year - The Odd Couple - will be this weekend in the black box. There are four performances in total: Friday, 9/20 at 7:30, Saturday, 9/21 at 3:00 and 7:30 and Sunday, 9/22 at 3:00. Tickets are $10 and are available online at cccepa.com. The show is almost entirely double cast, so you may wish to check with a cast member to see which students perform at which times.
As you all know, this week I will be spending two school days (Tuesday and Wednesday) taping prescreen auditions for our seniors who are auditioning for BFA acting and musical theater programs. This is a busy and stressful time for those students, so I invite you to offer them encouragement when you're able. You'll notice on the PA calendar that Mr. Timmerman sent out over the summer that these dates have been set for some time now, so I have planned accordingly so that my classes won't suffer from my absence.
Here's your weekly outline of what to expect in class:
DRAMA 1
We have only two film/TV scenes left to tape, and we'll see those scenes on Monday and Thursday of this week. On Tuesday and Wednesday, you will be allowed time to search for your next scenes: multi-camera sitcoms! We'll also make sure there is time to review the footage from the two scenes we tape this week, and any remaining time on Friday will be devoted to rehearsing your sitcom scenes.
DRAMA 2
We'll complete first performances of your children's theater pieces on Monday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, you'll have time to continue rehearsing your pieces with your groups. On Thursday and Friday, we'll coach pieces individually in class (which means final performances won't occur until after we return from the break).
DRAMA 4
On Monday, we'll continue round three of your college research presentations. On Tuesday and Wednesday, you'll be allowed time to continue searching for monologues and to catch up on your remaining research presentations. On Thursday and Friday, we will resume roundtable monologue review. The goal will be to get as close as possible to completing our full list of class monologues by the end of this week.
Have a great week, everybody, and a wonderful break!
