Happy New Year! I hope you all had very happy holidays and that you're feeling recharged and ready to get back down to business!
I'm so excited to get this semester started. For students in Intro, I've been looking forward to the opportunity to teach you all for the first time. For students in Drama 3, I've missed you and I'm glad to have you back in class.
If you are new to my classes (or simply need a reminder), I update this blog weekly with an outline of the upcoming week's activities, and will also use this site to communicate information regarding upcoming events, schedule changes, etc. I also utilize Remind to communicate more immediately-pressing matters (details on how to sign up for my Remind lists will be provided in class).
Here is your first weekly outline of what to expect in class:
INTRO
During the early portion of this semester, we will be focused on given circumstances and how they influence a character's behavior - and we will apply that information to a round of theater scenes. On Monday we'll start with student introductions and discuss some of the basics of the course, but then we will jump right in with some exercises that will demonstrate the importance of a character's circumstances. We'll continue those exercises on Tuesday, and then begin the process of selecting and rehearsing scenes Wednesday-Friday. You'll be allowed increased freedom this semester in the scene selection process, so please feel free to bring plays you might like to utilize. I will also be happy to assist you in selecting a scene. On Friday I will provide you with the details for a written script analysis assignment that you will complete as part of your scene work.
DRAMA 3
As you all know, this semester will be almost entirely devoted to film/TV work. We'll start on Monday with an introduction to on-set key terms and personnel, and we will, of course, also be discussing the acting style. That introduction will continue on Tuesday. Wednesday-Friday of this week you'll have the opportunity to search for and rehearse a scene from an existing film or television show. On Friday I will provide you with the details for a written script analysis assignment that you will complete as part of your on-camera scene work.
Have a great first week, everybody! I'm looking forward to seeing you all!
