Now that callbacks for Gatsby and our beginning-of-the-year monologues are completed, we will turn our attention squarely toward our usual class business. Here's a quick look at what we'll be doing in each class this week:
DRAMA 1
On Monday we will finish the introduction to our film/TV unit. You will finally get with your scene partners and select, block and rehearse your scenes. You will also be assigned a written script analysis assignment. I don't want to set a hard date for when we'll begin taping scenes just yet, but I'd like us to start at the beginning of next week at the latest.
DRAMA 2
Now that the True West scene has been assigned, you will be allowed rehearsal time with your partner. You will also be assigned a written script analysis assignment. Ideally, we'll start looking at performances of the first half of the scene late in the week, so start learning those lines now if you haven't already!
DRAMA 3
We will begin our film/TV unit with an introduction to key terms and personnel. You will then be assigned a style (single-camera or multi-camera...we'll get to that on Monday) and may select a scene partner. You and your partner will then select a script and begin rehearsing, with an eye toward taping our first scene at the beginning of next week, and you will be assigned a written script analysis assignment. Also, remember that you will have voice class with Ms. Cook on Wednesday, so please bring/wear comfortable dress out clothes that day.
DRAMA 4
We will begin the week by delving deeper into your monologue selections. We will also finalize the details for your college research project and you will all be asked to complete the assignment for your first school by the end of the week. Hopefully on Thursday and Friday we will be able to shift gears away from monologues toward discussing the colleges on our board.
SENIORS: If you intend to audition for BFA programs in either acting or musical theater, it is not too soon to begin scheduling monologue coaching sessions with me. From now until the closing of The Great Gatsby I will only be available for morning sessions, but you can start scheduling time with me via email or in-person. Once Gatsby closes I will be available for afternoon sessions as well. Drama 4 seniors who intend to audition for BFA programs are required to attend at least two sessions with me, but I am happy to help any and all of our students. Remember, too, that Mr. Hurley is available for coaching and can assist with monologue selections. Please let me know if you'd like me to put you in touch with him.
