This promises to be an exciting new year, both for our department and for our school as a whole. We have a new principal, and the energy around school during the faculty pre-planning week has been one of extreme positivity and focus.
As usual, the first week of classes will likely be a little chaotic as we get back on schedule. Whereas I will usually split my weekly blog posts by individual classes, this week the schedule will be much the same for each drama class. All of my classes will be meeting alongside Mr. Adams' classes in the Black Box every day this week, and here's a preliminary look at what we'll be doing:
Monday will be a day to lay the groundwork for this year. We'll discuss class expectations, meet our new students and examine our goals for the new school year.
On Tuesday, I will be presenting audition material for the fall drama production which I will be directing: THE GREAT GATSBY(!). I'll present information about the show and will provide you with the audition monologues, which you will want to start preparing right away as auditions will begin the following Monday, 8/10, after school.
On Wednesday and for the rest of the week, Mr. Adams and I will be watching your traditional beginning-of-the-year monologues. Remember that you may perform any monologue you wish (as long as it's school-appropriate) even if we've seen you perform the monologue before. This means that old jury/class/common assessment monologues are absolutely acceptable. These monologues are a great way to get back into the swing of things, and they also allow us the opportunity to further evaluate your progress as the new year begins.
That's all for now. Can't wait to get started!
