We're off and running! Our first week was a tremendous success and we've already seen outstanding performances in all classes! In addition to the talent on display, all classes are showing high levels of positivity and supportiveness. It is clear that our program is in fantastic shape and that we are set up to have a terrific year.
Here's a quick outline of what to expect in week two:
DRAMA 1:
We will finish watching beginning-of-the-year monologues on Monday, and then we'll get back down to business in terms of our film/TV work. On Tuesday we'll finish our overview of key terms and on-set personnel, and then we'll begin the scene selection process on Wednesday. You'll be allowed to choose a scene partner and together you'll select a scene from an existing film/TV script that you will ultimately tape in class. You'll even be able to use your mobile devices in class to search for scenes! I suspect the selection process will carry us through Thursday, and then you'll be allowed time to start rehearsing. There will also be a written script analysis assignment coming soon...
DRAMA 2:
We will finish watching beginning-of-the-year monologues on Monday, and then we'll turn our attention back to the rotating scene partner exercise. You'll have the bulk of class on Tuesday to work with your rehearsal partner, and then we'll start looking at performances of the first half of the True West scene on Wednesday. First performances will continue on Thursday and Friday but since performance partners will be randomly assigned, all students should have the first half of the scene memorized by Wednesday (reminder: the first half the scene runs through Lee's line "he's running out of gas.").
DRAMA 4:
You will continue your week-long master class on the work of Jerzy Grotowski Monday-Thursday of this week (don't forget that you will need to bring/wear comfortable dress out clothes each of those days). On Friday we will conclude beginning-of-the-year monologue performances. Looking ahead, remember that we will start reviewing monologue selections at the beginning of the following week and will begin the first round of college research presentations at the end of that week, so I encourage you all to get ahead of the game on both projects.
Have a great week, everyone!
