I hope you've all had a fun and relaxing summer vacation! I'm very much looking forward to the new school year and am excited about what we can accomplish this year. I can't wait to see you all learn and grow in the coming months, and to do whatever I can to help our seniors get into college!
This first week is a little difficult to plan out precisely because of various activities that are planned, most notably that the school will be holding homeroom every day to address scheduling issues. I can tell you that - in keeping with tradition - you will be performing beginning-of-the-year monologues late in the first week. The plan is to have all returning students begin performances on Thursday, with new students performing the following week. If you'd forgotten about these performances, DON'T FREAK OUT. You are free to use your jury monologue from last year or any other monologue you may have already performed, however if you'd like to work on new material you are certainly welcome.
Here's a rough outline of what you can expect in my classes during the first week of school:
DRAMA 1:
We will start on Monday with a class overview and review of classroom policies and expectations, but then will move quickly into film/TV work. We'll lay the groundwork for our acting for the camera unit on Tuesday and Wednesday before beginning monologue performances on Thursday.
DRAMA 2:
We will start on Monday with a class overview and review of classroom policies and expectations, and then we'll get right to work. I'm sure that many of you who are familiar with the D2 curriculum are anxious to start clowning and/or children's theater, but we will begin with a scene exercise that we'll start on Tuesday and Wednesday. We will then break for monologue performances beginning on Thursday.
DRAMA 4:
We will start on Monday with a class overview and review of classroom policies and expectations. The first unit of D4 is essentially two units blended together, and we will regularly shift gears between the two: audition prep and college research. We'll begin work on both of those projects on Tuesday and Wednesday before beginning monologue performances on Thursday. On Friday, however, we will be joined by CCCEPA alumnus Alex Sherwin, who will begin guest teaching a week-long course on the work of Jerzy Grotowski.
That's all for now. Looking forward to seeing you all!
