We have a big week ahead of us, as this Friday will feature the changing of the chairs ceremony for seniors and juniors during the day and prom at night - two surefire signs that the end of the school year is drawing near!
Here's a quick look at what we'll be doing in class this week:
INTRO:
Monday will be your last day for in-class rehearsal of your class monologues, at least in terms of getting ready for first performances. If you have not yet selected your monologue for class (or for your jury later in the semester) the time has come for you to look on your own, as I cannot guarantee additional class time to aide in your search. As we've discussed in class, if your search through the plays in my classroom has not been fruitful I strongly encourage you to visit your local library and/or explore the play selections at a bookstore, and I also think that ordering a collection of 10-minute plays could be useful. Please do everything in your power to find a monologue from a published play rather than a stand-alone monologue that you find online. We will begin first performances of class monologues on Tuesday and those will almost certainly continue through Wednesday. Please also remember that your written script analysis will be due on Wednesday (if you were absent at the end of last week, it is essentially the exact same assignment you completed for your scenes at the beginning of the semester). If you would like to turn in your assignment prior to Wednesday you are welcome to do so! I would like to start coaching monologues in class on Thursday and Friday, but since Mr. Adams and I will be reading the names at the changing of the chairs ceremony on Friday (and at a rehearsal during 1st block on Thursday) you may be asked to utilize rehearsal time in class, incorporating notes and direction from your first performances.
DRAMA 3:
Due to a schedule conflict, Ms. Cook has requested that she join us to lead voice class on Mondays for the remainder of the semester rather than her typical Wednesday class, and the new schedule will begin this week. On Tuesday and Wednesday we will continue with our contact improvisation exercises, and on Thursday I'd like to start transitioning into work on movement pieces (I know you're all very excited about those!). On Friday I suspect that most of the class will be missing due to early check-out for prom. I will allow time that day to further explore the contact improvisation work, but it might be a good idea to also bring study materials from other classes. If there are simply not enough students in class to continue our own work I will give you time to get caught up on other classwork. As always with our movement and voice work, you will need to bring/wear comfortable dress out clothes every day this week.
Have a great week, everyone! If you are going to prom I hope you have a great, fun, safe time.
