DRAMA 1
We're going to start this semester with voice and speech work. We'll start on Tuesday with an introduction to a basic warm-up designed to improve projection and diction, and we will continue that work on Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday we will start delving into the basics of Fitzmaurice voice work which is physical in nature, so please bring/wear comfortable dress out clothes on those days.
DRAMA 2
This semester will begin with every member of the class being assigned the same scene from the play True West by Sam Shepard. I have already divided both classes (2nd block and 4th block) into halves and "cast" each of you in one of the two roles. We will review and discuss the scene on Tuesday, and you will then be assigned a partner with whom you may rehearse for the remainder of the week, but you will be rotating partners once we actually start performing the scene in class. We will also discuss a small written script analysis assignment you will be completing for the scene. This work will comprise our entire week in both blocks, with the exception of 2nd block on Wednesday when our wonderful and talented guest instructor Ms. Cook will be leading a voice class, so please bring/wear comfortable dress out clothes that day.
DRAMA 3
We are going to start the semester by diving right into film and television work. On Tuesday we will discuss the various on-camera styles we'll be covering in class, and you will also be placed into scene pairings and if time permits, I will allow some class time for you to search for scenes. On Wednesday you will have voice class with Ms. Cook, so please bring/wear comfortable dress out clothes that day. On Thursday we will be paid a visit by a CCCEPA alumnus who will meet with Drama 3 and 4 to discuss the college audition process. On Friday, we will discuss the various on-set jobs found on professional sound stages, and you will also be allowed time to search for scenes/rehearse with your scene partner.
DRAMA 4 (Wednesday Only)
As we discussed last semester, though Mr. Adams will be your primary teacher this term, I will be working with you on Wednesdays while Ms. Cook leads voice class with Drama 3. Our work will be largely devoted to taping film and television scenes. Some of you have already chosen scene partners and scenes and if that is the case for you, please be sure to bring your scripts with you to class this Wednesday. For those of you who do not yet have partners, we will choose your partners this Wednesday, and you will be allowed class time for scene selection/rehearsal. I would like for us to be in position to start shooting our first scene next Wednesday, 1/14.
As always, college audition coaching sessions/pre-screen tapings are available with me by appointment before or after school. These sessions are available to ANY of our seniors who intend to audition for BFA programs. Please see me or email me at [email protected] to schedule a time. Also, any student (not limited to seniors) who feels he/she could use extra help with the concepts we discuss in class may also schedule a time with me before or after school.
Here's to a great first week of 2015!
