I want to reiterate how proud I am of the work I've seen during the auditions for METAMORPHOSES. Casting this show is proving to be an even greater challenge than expected, and it's because of the fantastic work you're all doing. Callbacks are nearly completed with only a handful of readings remaining, mostly in 3rd block. I'd like to request that you PLEASE DO NOT ASK WHEN THE CAST LIST WILL BE POSTED. I can tell you that it will be no sooner than Wednesday, and it is far more likely to go up at the end of the school day rather than the beginning. However, I do not want to rush the casting process by announcing an exact date for posting.
Here is a brief rundown of what we'll be doing in each class this week:
DRAMA 1
We have concluded callbacks for METAMORPHOSES in this period so we will continue working through your theater scenes at a rate of about two per day. I intend for us to proceed in the order the scenes were originally presented, however all students should be prepared to work in the event other students are absent and our order needs to be changed. We'll be doing this work for the entire week, Tuesday-Friday. Once this work concludes, likely in the middle of next week, we will see final performances of your scenes, and then we will move on to our film and TV work.
DRAMA 2
In 4th period D2, we still have a couple of callbacks remaining for METAMORPHOSES due to some student illnesses late last week, but they should only require a portion of our class time on Tuesday. 4th period also still has a few first-presentations of scenes remaining, which we will also complete on Tuesday. Callbacks in 2nd block are now completed. In both classes, we will begin working through scenes individually, at a rate of about two per day. I intend for us to proceed in the order the scenes were originally presented, however all students should be prepared to work in the event other students are absent and our order needs to be changed. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday will be devoted to our scene work. On Wednesday, however, Ms. Cook will be leading voice work again in 2nd block and I will teach a corresponding voice class in 4th block, so please bring/wear dress out clothes that day.
DRAMA 4
As expected, with the class time lost during the school-wide practice writing exam, we still have a good few METAMORPHOSES callbacks to complete for both D4 and D3 students, so Tuesday will be entirely devoted to continuing that process. If you have only read once for the show (or not at all, due to absence) you will be the first to read. If you have read twice, you may or may not be asked to read again. We should complete readings that day, meaning that Wednesday-Friday we will continue with our college research project, so please prepare accordingly. As a heads up, I intend for us to hold what will hopefully be our final round of college monologue readings beginning next Monday, 9/8, so students who do not yet have the requisite four approved monologues should continue searching for material and be prepared to present new material that day. As a reminder, you should be memorizing and preparing your approved pieces NOW, if you haven't started already. Also, if you intend to audition for a BFA program, it is not too early to begin scheduling coaching sessions with me. I've already held a few and feel they have been quite productive, and the work I've seen has been excellent. Remember, too, that all graduating seniors in this class who are auditioning for BFA programs are required to schedule at least two coaching sessions with me, though hopefully you will want to schedule more time than that.
On the subject of college audition coaching, please remember that you do not have to be enrolled in Drama 4 to arrange a coaching session with me. I am happy to help any and all of our graduating seniors with work on college audition monologues, regardless of class placement or major area of study.
Have a great rest of your holiday!
