Here's a look at what we'll be doing in each class this week:
DRAMA 1
As I mentioned to you last week, we'll now being shifting our voice work more toward performances of your monologues. Everyone should have a monologue selected and memorized at this point. Each day this week, we will start the class with a shortened version of our vocal warm-up and Fitzmaurice routine (please continue to bring/wear comfortable dress out clothes even though you won't need them as much), however the bulk of each class will be devoted to monologue performances. Your observations of your classmates' performances will prove crucial in this process, as we will be doing some partner exercises tailored to each student in an effort to identify and address performance habits.
DRAMA 2
2nd block still has a few "True West" scene performances to present, so we'll see those on Monday. 4th block has completed scene performances, meaning that on Monday in 4th block and Tuesday in 2nd block we'll be moving on to our next task: students will be writing monologues for each other that will be rehearsed and performed in class. We'll select partners for this exercise and have a discussion about the process of writing a monologue, including things like tone, actor "type" and what goes into this kind of collaboration. 2nd block will have voice class with Ms. Cook on Wednesday (as always, please bring/wear comfortable dress out clothes that day) but otherwise, both classes will spend the remainder of the week devoted to writing and rehearsing monologues.
DRAMA 3
On Monday, we'll review the footage from the scene we shot on Friday and provide feedback, and we will also have time to start setting up for our next scene. Please don't forget that your annotated lyrics for your video project are due on Monday. On Tuesday I will be in a school-sponsored collaborative meeting with Mr. Sager as we finish laying the groundwork for this tremendous video project our students are exploring together. Needless to say, Mr. Sager and I are extremely excited about this experience. It is no exaggeration when we tell you this is an opportunity for you to leave a legacy at PHS as you pioneer what we hope will become the PHS Film Festival. We are also discussing the possibility of piloting a PHS Film Club. This all means, however, that you will have a substitute teacher on Tuesday. You will be given the option to either rehearse your scene for class, or work on planning your video project. On Wednesday you will have voice class with Ms. Cook (as always, please bring/wear comfortable dress out clothes). On Thursday, we will meet with Mr. Sager's class to allow time in your groups for your video projects. On Friday, we will continue shooting our next scene.
DRAMA 4 (Wednesday Only)
In keeping with our routine this semester, while Drama 3 takes voice class with Ms. Cook you'll be having film/TV class with me. This week, we should have time to finish shooting the scene we started last week and review the footage, providing in-class feedback. We should also have time to block our next scene and assign crew jobs.
Reminder: the PTSA Open House is this Thursday, 1/29, and I will be on hand and looking forward to speaking to any parents who are able to make it!
Have a great week, everyone!
