As you all know, on Monday and Tuesday of this week I will be spending all class periods shooting pre-screen audition videos for our seniors' college auditions. As you also know, the college audition process is dear to my heart, and it thrills me to be a part of a program where the faculty bonds together to provide this sort of invaluable service to our students. While I never like to be taken away from my own classes, all of my classes are working on projects which require rehearsal and preparation time, so classes on these days will still be put to good use. Also, your work will be under the supervision of other members of the PA faculty in my place, so our progress shouldn't skip a beat.
Here's a look at what we'll be doing in each class this week:
DRAMA 1
On Monday and Tuesday you will be allowed time to select and start rehearsing your theater scenes. I will make all the plays from my classroom available to you, and you may also wish to bring in texts of your own. Remember that your scenes should come from published plays only (no film, TV or scene books) and should be around five minutes in length. The scenes may have up to four characters as long as there is an even distribution of lines. On Wednesday we'll review the footage from our final film scene, and then we'll start rehearsing your theater scenes in class for the remainder of the week.
DRAMA 2
On Monday and Tuesday you will rehearse your children's theater pieces with your groups. Now that we've worked on each scene individually in class you should have a good idea of what should be the focus of your rehearsal, and everyone should be striving to get off book over the course of these two rehearsal days. On Wednesday and for the remainder of the week, we'll start running our full children's theater show in class and provide feedback each day.
DRAMA 3
Since our film and TV scenes have taken a backseat lately to our filmmaking PBL with Mr. Sager's class, Monday seems like a good day to rehearse those scenes and refresh your memory on lines and blocking. I would like those of you who have already taped and reviewed your scene to coach those students who have yet to perform their scenes in class. On Tuesday you will join with Mr. Sager's class to continue work on our PBL, which we will continue on Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday you will have voice class with Ms. Cook, so please bring/wear comfortable dress out clothes that day.
DRAMA 4
On Monday and Tuesday - aside from some of you taping your pre-screen auditions with me - you will be allowed rehearsal time for your class monologues. Your fourth and final monologue will be performed on Friday of this week, and your performance of ALL FOUR monologues will be the following week, so you should spend time rehearsing all four of your monologues during those days. On Wednesday and Thursday we will complete our last full round of college research presentations, leaving only a few schools to be presented the following week.
Have a great week, everyone!
